Welcome to the eyemark…

In Old English, eyemark means “the borderland of the eye,” that enticing horizon at the edge of vision or between different forms of perception.

Eyemark Designs is an art practice inspired by the challenge of that horizon: by the subtle variations in feeling and meaning possible by teasing the eye with images hovering between abstract and representational, and by the liminal condition of humanity, caught between heaven and hell, between perfection and decay.

Inspired primarily by the sinuous organic abstraction of the midcentury Abstract Expressionists along with a strong surrealist influence, my work seeks to develop these classic modernist references into a language that can speak to the pathos of human experience without losing the emotional distance of abstract forms.

Though I continue to experiment in many different media, I am focusing on medium to large sized oil paintings on stretched canvas, suitable for subtly complimenting an interior decorative scheme or serving as a bold focal point for a space. I produce paintings on speculation and am open to commissions.
