Nicholas Smith is a self-taught artist who works primarily in oils. He has a professional background in architecture and received his Bachelor of Architecture from Rice University in 2014.

Nick began painting seriously in 2017 but struggled for several years to find an approach and a technique that worked for him. He was attracted to surrealism and symbolism early, but, due to an exaggerated respect for realism, avoided abstract work until late-2021, when his work really began to come together.

Still exploring different media and techniques, Nick looks forward to turning the semi-abstract visual language he has developed over the past few years into a subtle meditation on the liminal state of human existence balanced between eternities.
